Haemangioma of the orbit. Case causing periodic venous obstruction and exophthalmos treated successfully by a posteriorly placed orbital decompression.

چکیده
HAEMANGIOMAS are well-known formations; they occur all over the body although they are exceedingly rare in the orbit. It is not our intention here to discuss the pathology of these neoplasms or malformations, as this has already been done adequately by Ewing (1940), Boyd (1947), and Willis (1948). For a comprehensive bibliography on orbital tumours and, in particular, on orbital haemangiomas, reference should be made to Reese's (1963) textbook Tumors of the Eye. Our object in reporting this case is to illustrate certain special features of these formations. Also, we have had the opportunity of observing the clinical behaviour of this particular patient over a period of eighteen years. A specially designed posteriorly placed decompression was carried out to overcome venous obstruction at the sphenoidal fissure.

Tension pneumo-orbit treated by endoscopic, endonasal decompression: case report and literature review.
OBJECTIVE We present a 38-year-old man with a tension pneumo-orbit following medial orbital wall fracture, managed with endoscopic decompression. METHOD A case report and a review of the world literature concerning the aetiology, clinical features and management of medial orbital wall fractures are presented. RESULTS Our patient presented with a post-traumatic tension pneumo-orbit exacerbat...
متن کاملIntermittent exophthalmos.
The syndrome of intermittent exophthalmos classically consists of enophthalmos with the head in the upright position, and exophthalmos which develops rapidly in one eye (usually the left) when venous stasis is induced by bending or lowering the head, turning the head forcibly, hyperextension of the neck, coughing, forced expiration with or without compression of the nostrils, or pressure on the...
متن کاملCase Report Extension of tardive subgaleal hematoma into the orbit causing blindness of both eyes: a case report and literature review
Subgaleal hematomas (SGHs) are not uncommon. Because the subgaleal space has no anatomical boundaries, SGHs usually involve a large space; however, SGHs are typically limited to the parietal region. Cases of SGHs breaking through the fascia at the eyebrow and entering the orbit are relatively rare, especially with respect to those involving the bilateral orbits. This study reported a rare case ...
متن کاملEndocrine Exophthalmos Treated by Orbital Decompression
ORBITAL DECOMPRESSION P. R. R. CLARKE (Middlesbrough) discussed a series of 20 patients with endocrine exophthalmos treated by lateral orbital decompression. There had been 14 bilateral decompressions, and in six patients a unilateral operation only had been performed. One patient had needed reoperation. Four patients had no thyroid abnormality, and two had untreated hyperthyroidism. In 14 pati...
متن کاملSpontaneous bony orbital auto-decompression in thyroid ophthalmopathy.
Orbital 'auto-decompression' in TED (thyroid eye disease) is a well recognised phenomenon in older patients where lax orbital septa allow proptosis to decompress the orbit. Bony 'auto-decompression' in TED is a different entity which to the best of our knowledge has not been previously reported. We describe such a case which presented spontaneously, in the absence of trauma or bony pathology, a...
